The Ghost and Mr. Chicken organ. This piece is themed after the 1960s Don Knotts movie, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. It took 6 months to build in 2002 for the hallway. One of the largest and most complex props, it is over 6 feet wide and nearly 8 feet tall and weighs over 250 lbs. Of course it had to be made to disasemble for storage. Completely automated, it is triggered by an infared beam. Bathed in blue light, when visitors walk by, it starts its sequence. First, the lights go out, thunder crashes and lightning flashes. Then, in darkness, an artificial flame comes up from behind the pipes and below an animated skull that says in a deep growling voice...."They'll never get the blood off these keys." Then you hear the old lady's voice from the movie say...."And they used Bonami!" (The ladys voice is actually sampled from the movie.) And then the skull laughs. Next, the flame goes out, and a bright red light washes the organ as it starts to play. With keys moving, the organ plays the familar pipe organ music from The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Although now, this music is in stereo and was recorded by Charles Hall of Charles Hall Studio. (Thanks Charles) The organ contains sequence, control, and drive electronics, a digital recorder chip, a mixer, 4 gearmotors, stereo amp and speakers, a DVD player, artificial flame, a strobe, and 2-200watt par cans. Not to mention key motion mechanics, 52 pipes and a pedal board modeled after a Hammond B3.
