TeslaCoil.jpg

This is the Tesla Coil being fired. This device is completely hand made. Built by Shaw somewhere around 1995, the coil, its transformer and controls weigh about 350 lbs. Under the coil is 3- 20 pound polyethylene high voltage capacitors made from 6 inch PVC pipe and filled with transformer oil. Also under the coil is two spark gaps. A multiple static spark gap that is vacuum quenched and a precision balanced rotary gap that operates at over 6000 rpm and is enclosed in a lexan box. The coil is powered by a 3kva pole transformer. This coil will produce arcs of 5 feet at over 1 million volts. Of course, the fence in front keeps onlookers at a safe distance and our mad scientist, Bubba has a key locked control and knows what he's doing. This thing is not for the inexperienced. If you ever see and hear a Tesla Coil being fired, you'll never forget it. 2002 photo.
